What is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day (IWD) has been around since 1911 – over a hundred years – and its purpose is to raise awareness of gender inequality and discrimination by celebrating women’s achievements.
At its heart, IWD is a collective action of fundraising and knowledge sharing. Being neither country or organisation specific, the goal is to bring together women and allies from around the globe – whether that’s raising (or donating) money, attending events and talks, or simply spending time reflecting on the women in your life, and what “women” mean to you.
Why does International Women’s Day matter at Scarlett Gasque?
Here at Scarlett Gasque, there are so many reasons to celebrate women on International Women’s Day – and every day for that matter! From our inspiring team to our gorgeous customers, and those who came before and inspired our journey, women are at the heart of our brand.
Meet our incredible team
International Women’s Day isn’t just a date in our calendar – it’s woven into the foundations of our business. We’re built by women, for women. Do you want to meet them?
Chloé Rogers – Founder & Creative Director
Without Chloé, Scarlett Gasque would have never come to be. She’s the brains behind our designs, reimaging vintage glamour for modern women and proving that lingerie is more than just underwear; it’s a statement of confidence. Drawing inspiration directly from the unapologetically feminine wardrobes of golden age Hollywood, Chloé’s designs favour traditional silhouettes and timeless style. She’s also the face of Scarlett Gasque – you’ve probably seen her donning our gorgeous pieces in our digital campaigns. Chloé really can do it all!
Tina Gershoff – President and CEO
Tina is the driving force behind Scarlett Gasque’s big moves across retail, wholesale and digital. She’s got a sharp eye for business and a passion for nurturing emerging talent. Working closely with stakeholders, Tina is responsible for Scarlett Gasque’s consistent customer-centric culture. And, having raised two children alongside a burgeoning career in NYC fashion, she’s a huge advocate for a healthy work-life balance.
Eleni Meneve – Head of ECommerce & Digital Marketing
Eleni has a Bachelor’s Degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, and over 10 years of experience in luxury fashion. Now she’s the go-to for all things digital at Scarlett Gasque. Since she joined the business, she’s successfully completed a full UX/UI website upgrade, improving the digital journey across all touchpoints, and led the launch of numerous digital marketing campaigns to increase brand awareness, engagement and conversions. Outside of work, Eleni has a passion for food, travel and all things wellness!
Rae Shelton – Head of Marketing & PR
With over 15 years experience bringing the best out of brands through marketing and PR, Rae understands how to tell our story and engage different audiences. She applies her skills at Scarlett Gasque daily to create meaningful connections with our community and drive impactful campaigns that resonate in dynamic markets. When she’s not at work, Rae spends most of her time with her family and two young daughters, soaking up the beautiful chaos of motherhood.
Ophelia Bendle – Product & Operations Manager
Ophelia Bendle is the bridge between old and new at Scarlett Gasque. Informed by her studies of fashion history and experience with buying and merchandising, she oversees both our mainline collections and bespoke creations, honouring vintage silhouettes and redefining them to the needs of the modern woman to bring the Scarlett Gasque vision to life.
Gabriella Bilotta – Director of Technical Design & Sourcing
Gabriella keeps us stylish and sustainable. She trained at the London College of Fashion and is now our in-house sustainability expert, passionately making sure that luxury and eco-consciousness go hand in hand at Scarlett Gasque. Her expertise helps us to make sure our lingerie, corsets and loungewear live up to our ethical and sustainable standards.
Our team is proof that when women take charge, amazing things can happen.
Behind the name
Have you ever wondered how Scarlett Gasque got its name? It’s actually named after two influential women in Chloé’s family.
Scarlett, Chloé’s maternal great grandmother, was a well-read, hard-working and tenacious woman born in Budapest, Hungary. She was opinionated and passionate, never shying away from a debate, but always showed kindness, resilience and strength. These qualities led her to immigrate to Canada, where she raised multiple strong women – including Chloé’s grandmother. It felt only fitting to honour such a fantastic female presence in the Scarlett Gasque brand.
Gasque comes from Chloé’s paternal great-grandmother, Maude “Maysie” Gasque. She was a Londoner who joined the allied forces as an assistant nurse during the Second World War and continued to proudly serve her country for years afterwards. She embodies the innate strength of women: supporting her husband, family and community throughout her life. Upon marrying Sir John Roland Robinson in 1964, Maysie later became Lady Martonmere of Blackpool. We’re proud to wear her maiden name in our brand.
Our inspirations
From fierce family lineage to iconic pin-up girls, Scarlett Gasque is built on a legacy of women who understand that femininity has its own impactful kind of power. And every day we’re inspired by the women who came before us.
Jayne Mansfield and Elizabeth Taylor didn’t just wear glamour – they embodied it, turning every entrance into an event. Rita Hayworth’s sultry elegance made her a silver-screen siren, while Betty Page redefined seduction with a wink and a whip-smart sense of fun.
Beyond the spotlight, trailblazers like Josephine Baker and Dorothy Dandridge defied convention, breaking barriers with effortless grace and undeniable presence. At Scarlett Gasque, we want to pay homage to these icons who captivated the world; not just with their beauty, but with their confidence, charisma and unapologetic self-expression.
Their legacy lives on in every lace trim and corseted silhouette we create. Because at Scarlett Gasque, lingerie isn’t just an accessory – it’s an attitude and a celebration of femininity in all its fearless, glamorous forms.
How can you celebrate International Women’s Day?
There’s no right or wrong way to celebrate IWD – you just have to make it count. Here are some meaningful ways to mark the occasion:
- Support a cause: Donate to or fundraise for a women-focused charity.
- Read and reflect: Dive into a book or online resources to learn about powerful women from the past.
- Girls night out (or in): Gather your girls and host a girls’ night – whether that’s going out for drinks, or staying in for movies.
- Take a moment for yourself: Pause to appreciate your own journey, personal power and the women in your life who’ve shaped you.
- Dress the part: Whether it’s a new Scarlett Gasque corset, a bold lipstick shade, or your favourite it-girl outfit, embrace whatever it is that makes you shine.
No matter how you choose to celebrate, let IWD be a day of confidence, connection, community and empowerment.
